Promoting the life and times of Mary, Queen of Scots

Visit – Chenies Manor, 2 May 16

On Bank Holiday 2nd May the English Branch proposes a visit to the beautiful Tudor red brick Chenies Manor in Buckingham. This is near Amersham and the postcode is WD3 6ER off junction 18 of the M.25.
Chairman Alison and Richard will be there to meet attendees at 2.00pm at the front door.
The charge for house and gardens is £8. It has a very beautiful garden to look round. It was the home of the 2nd Earl of Bedford, who was one of Elizabeth’s inner circle, and it is said she signed Mary’s death warrant here. She visited here several times and met with the Privy Council to discuss Mary’s future. Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn also visited, and this is where Katherine Howard was said to have had her affair with Thomas Culpeper. So it was an important place in the 16th century with many notable state visitors. The Earl’s wife was chief mourner at Mary’s funeral at Peterborough.
There is lots of information on the web site
If you are intending to come please let Alison know on or telephone: 01386 – 848864
