Further to the outline information in the October Journal, here’s the detailed timings and arrangements for the events on Sunday 3 February 2019 to commemorate Mary’s death.
A Benefice service (members of other congregations are welcome to attend) dedicated to Mary is to take place in St Mary and All Saints Church, Fotheringhay PE8 5HZ on Sunday 3 February 2019 at 10.15am – c11.15am. The Vicar Rev Anne Hindle is conducting the service and the Rev Canon Tim Alban – Jones MBE of Peterborough Cathedral will be preaching the sermon.
At the conclusion of the church service, we will walk along the road to the foot of the mound of Fotheringhay Castle. I will be saying a few words about Mary’s execution and then flowers will be laid on behalf of the church congregation and by our Society.
Lunch is booked for Society members at the Falcon Inn for 12.30pm. Rev Hindle is joining us.
Lifts to Fotheringhay from Peterborough and return on the Sunday are available from English Branch member(s) with cars and if there’s too many for cars, then we can organise a taxi(s) for the few miles. Ideally anyone staying overnight in Peterborough could all meet at the Bull Hotel at 9.15am so we go together.
I should be grateful if you would confirm if you are attending the service, the flower laying and lunch; and if you have a car with spaces or need a lift from Peterborough. The Society flowers laid at the Castle site will be individual roses and thistles so that any member who wishes to do so can participate by laying one of them – it would be helpful to know in advance if you’d like to do that too.
For your information, I am staying at the Bull Hotel in Peterborough – I arrive there about 3pm on Saturday (I’ll then be going to the Cathedral for a visit); and my train leaves at 453pm on the Sunday, but I’ll be happy to go back in to Peterborough whenever it suits anyone else.
I look forward to hearing from you by email or phone – 0779 604 4903.
For your full information, there will be an event at Peterborough Cathedral some months in the future for the presentation of the maquette. The Cathedral is delighted to be a recipient of this gift but have requested some additional time to get a secure location arranged either in the Cathedral or the Visitors’ Centre – they will let us know as soon as they have this in place.
